Inserting Links and Files

1. To insert a link to a file or URL into your text, first select the text you wish to use for your link, and click the Link image in the toolbar.

2. In the next pop-up window, click the Browse button as shown below.

There are three areas to pay attention to in the following pop-up window, noted below this next picture:

3

1. This shows you which folder you are in at the moment. In this picture you are in the root uploads folder.

2. This section is used to upload new files. Click the Browse button, find the file on your computer, Click OK, and then click on the Upload button to store the file on the site.

The section to the right of this area is used for creating new folders. Please use folders to organize your files and images! It makes maintaining the site much easier.

3. This is the folder (or "directory") structure of all the Cedars uploaded files. Before uploading a file, please be sure to navigate to the correct folder, or create a new one if there will be several files of the same type to be stored in one spot. You may create sub-directories within directories to keep things organized, if needed. An example would be to make a picture gallery folder for 2010, and then sub-categorize it with other folders named "SportsDay", "Walkathon", etc.

Also note: All new directory names should not use spaces or special characters. You may use capitals to make the directory name more readable, if you wish. This is also a good rule to follow for names of files that are uploaded to the site.

CorrectBoardOfDirectors2009.pdf or board_of_directors_2009.pdf

Incorrect: Board of Directors 2009.pdf or board-of-directors*2009.pdf

Let's walk through inserting a PDF file.

First, navigate to the PDF folder by clicking the link to it as below.

As you can see, there are some sub-directories already here to be used. Feel free to make others if called for. We're going to go into the directory called "pdfs".

Notice in the picture below where it shows you the folder you are currently in.

Click on one of the files to link to it. However, if you have not uploaded the file, click the Browse button near the top.

5

Browse to the file's location on your computer; click Open.

6

Now click Upload and wait a few seconds for the page to refresh after uploading the file. Once it's been uploaded, it will show in the file list. Click on the file title to choose it.

You will then see the following:

6

1. The Link URL will be filled in with the path to your file on the server.

2. Add a title for the file, such as the name of the file. Spaces are OK in this part.

3. Click Insert to finish the process.

Your link should look like the picture below:
