Cedars Christian School

The elementary athletics school year began in September with cross-country running. This 2-pronged effort consisted of several inter-school meets, as well as our own Cedars “Turkey Trot). These activities were organized by Mrs. Jansen (teacher sponsor) and Mrs. Klassen (parent and head coach).

Next (Oct.-Nov.) on the calendar was Grade 6/7 Volleyball. Mr. Uy coached the boys, and Mrs. Karpenko and Mrs. Heffernan coached the girls. Both teams were competitive and displayed good attitudes on the floor.

Next (Dec.-March) was Grade 6/7 Basketball. The boys’ team was coached by Mr. Goertzen), and the girls’ teams had Mr. Beeksma and Mr. Ludditt (with help from Mrs. Karpenko) at the helm. These three teams made great improvements, and this bodes well for the future at Cedars.

After Spring Break was Elementary Relays (traditionally for Grades 3-7). Mrs. Toninato was the staff sponsor for this activity (culminating in a multi-school meet at Masich Place Stadium), and Mrs. Wessner was the head coach. 

In May and June, elementary Track and Field was the focus. Mrs. Vaale was the head coach and staff sponsor, and this activity (which again culminated in a multi-school meet at Masich Place Stadium) involved Grades 3-7.
