Our Elementary Athletics Program

Some of you may be wondering why it is important to have teams at the Grade 6/7 level. Well...

  1. It is at this age that students are often first introduced to sports at a competitive level. This level, while somewhat competitive, is still low-key enough to be enjoyable even for those students who are not athletically gifted.

  2. These athletes form the beginnings of teams at the junior and senior levels.

  3. At this level, kids can try out different sports and decide what they want to specialize in later on in their athletic career. At Cedars, Grade 6/7 kids have a smorgasbord of athletic options from which to choose – cross-country running, volleyball, basketball, relays, and track and field.

While volleyball for the Gr. 6/7 girls (staff sponsors: Lara Burnham and Sage Goudsward, coaches Dori Alger and Sage Goudsward), and the Gr. 6/7 boys (teacher sponsor: Heather Fisher, coaches Gloria/Joe Heffernan) is winding down, we're already planning for the basketball season which will begin after the Christmas break. Coaches confirmed so far are: Mr. Beeksma, Mr. Ludditt, Mr. Goertzen/Mr. Uy, and Mrs. Goudsward. If you are interested in being an assistant coach with one of the basketball at the Grade 6/7 level from January-March, please contact me!
