Student Life at Cedars Christian School

Special Events

Every year, students enjoy a wide variety of events. We're a small school and we take full advantage of this by going on special trips to amazing places. We have done trips in our high school to Mexico (building houses for poor families), the Queen Charlotte Islands, the Bowron Lakes, Victoria for SALTS (on a sailing ship), Vancouver (for YWAM street missions), Ski Smithers, Purden Ski Village and rafting at Mt. Robson. We also do many school wide events at school led by our student council. These events include The Challenge Cup, the Christmas Party, 16 chapels (each year), a sports day, Christmas Bowling, and graduation celebrations.

Athletics - A Team Environment

At Cedars Christian School, athletics is an opportunity for students to be part of a team environment, which encourages students to compete, to develop physically, socially, and spiritually, and to enjoy athletic competition.

Where Cedars' athletics really differs from other school's athletic programs is in our commitment to encouraging, teaching and applying Biblical principles in real life situations.

Cedars' athletics encourages players, coaches, sponsors, and fans to adhere to a framework that sport, like every part of life, should be used as an act of worship to God. We play to the best of our ability and represent Christ through our sportsmanship, integrity and hard work.

Spectators, players and coaches all strive to enter into sports with this spirit. Cedars has produced very competitive teams over the years. In 1998, our senior boys volleyball team and our senior girls basketball team won the BC "A" provincial championships. All students who want to play sport at Cedars are given an opportunity.

You can read about what Cedars teams are doing on our Athletics News page.

Graduation

A Cedars' graduation is special. We have small graduating classes which allow us to do some pretty amazing things with our grad program and ceremony. Our commencement ceremony is an hour long and is meant to encourage each student and honor our Lord Jesus Christ. After the ceremony students have a banquet and a community program which includes humour, stories, skits, music and tributes from staff and students.

It is a very special evening but it doesn't stop there. After the banquet students have an all night party (dry grad of course) and spend some incredible hours together as a last celebration of their time together at Cedars. It is an amazing event and we are quite pleased that we can celebrate this achievement in a way that brings honor to God.

Store

Our school store is open each lunch hour and provides a chance for students to buy hot lunch or other goodies. It is run by a parent and students work in the store to earn money toward school trips. It is also open as a concession during athletic tournaments and special events.

Video

At Cedars, we use video to celebrate the cool things we're doing at school. We tell the stories of our trips, chapels, messages and learning using our video editing computer lab to create presentations. It is a pretty exciting tool and we're using to make some pretty amazing presentations.

Yearbook

Our hard-cover yearbook is digitally produced and printed by Friesens Yearbooks® in Altona, Manitoba. Our mission and theme for Christian Education is displayed throughout it. Our Yearbook has won 1st place in Canada with the Canadian Scholastic Yearbook Review.
