The Cedars Shake |
![]() Invitation to AIM French Program Information Evening We would like to invite both elementary and high school parents with students enrolled in French classes (or who are considering "dropping" French classes) at Cedars to come hear more about our school-wide program. For a number of years now, Cedars has used AIM (Accelerative Integrated Methodology) resources to help our students learn French. As many of you know, the AIM program takes a story-based approach to language learning and uses gestures, drama, songs, and dance to achieve oral and written fluency.
At 7pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, Miss Holmlund (grades 6-10), Mrs. Scholefield (grades 1-5), and Mr. Lewis (High School Academic Advisor) will take some time to discuss the overall goals, scope, and sequence of our program - as well as the doors that French studies can open for our students. Because the AIM programme is taught primarily in French using a method designed to imitate the way we learned our first language the expectations and study skills required for this course are quite different from a "typical" French class. This meeting will seek to clarify some common misunderstandings regarding expectations for the classroom and how you, as parents, can help facilitate language learning at home. In preparation for the evening, we encourage you to listen and read some of the testimonials found on the AIM website: www.aimlanguagelearning.com ![]() |

From the Frazzled Front : Messages and Announcements. As our school community continues to grow, things that were simple to do become more complicated. Nowhere is this more clear than in the main office at Cedars where too much time is being consumed by passing on messages for students. While we will always pass on emergency messages and will do our best to pass on other messages, we would appreciate your help in reducing this work load by making more arrangements ahead of time. Also, I have instructed the office staff to refuse to use the Public Address (PA) system to page students for anyone who calls from the parking lot looking for children. If parents/guardians have searched for children and are stymied, you may come by the office to request a page and we will use the PA in those cases. Thank you for your help with this; since Rosie and Coleen really run the school, we want to do all we can to give them time to do their real work! Curt Tuininga Principal |

Lost and Found Our lost and found bins are overflowing once again! We will be giving students a chance to look over the items during the week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 3, and leftover items will be taken to the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Tues. Feb. 7. Parents are urged to take a look for lost items in the next few days.
In the meantime, here are a few small items to look at. If they belong to your family, please claim them at the front office. Note that as of Friday, February 3, these items will be thrown out! ![]() |
